State of Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner - Full Time - Day Shift in Boston, Massachusetts

Please note: This position is a temerary sick leave back fill. The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner at the WaRM (Wellness and Recovery Medicine) Center which is part of the services provided by the Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC). The selected candidate will collaborate alongside the Internist to provide routine medical care/services to MMHC clients in the Primary Care Clinic (PCC), including, but not limited to documenting patient histories, ordering, performing, and interpreting the results of diagnostic procedures and laboratory test, performing physical examinations, developing treatment and/or health maintenance programs, providing health education to assigned patients and acting as a liaison to their other health care providers. _Duties and Responsibilities (These duties are a general summary and are not all inclusive):_ * Performs physical examinations and nursing assessments of patients' physical and mental health needs to ensure proper nursing care. * Confers with physicians during patient rounds to obtain guidance and to provide and receive information on such matters as response to medication, treatment, and other patient problems. * Orders appropriate diagnostic procedures, such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms, and PAP smears, etc., reporting any abnormal findings to the Internist. * Ensures that all documentation for persons served in the MMHC BWH PCC is completed in a timely fashion in accordance with DMH, standards, policies, and procedures. * Develops short- and long-term service/care plans for PCC patients based on findings, routinely reevaluating, and adjusting these plans as clinically indicated. * Refers PCC clients to appropriate consultants and/or specialists as clinically indicated. * Notifies billing or medical records departments of any changes in client insurance or demographic status. * Establishes and maintains working relationships with internal/external contacts by maintaining regular meetings and trainings. * Follows agency risk mitigation policies and procedures with respect to reporting any significant event/incident and ensures the completion of all associated required documentation. * Stays informed on current working knowledge of developments, trends, policies, and procedures in behavioral and mental health. * Maintains continuing education as necessary to continue current licensure and board certification. * Participates in policy development discussions, committees, and work groups. _Required Qualifications:_ * Knowledge of the principles and practices of practical nursing. * Ability to relate well with staff, patients, and internal/external individuals. * Experience with the types and uses of monitoring equipment used in providing nursing care, such as telemetry units and electrocardiograms. * Experience with the types and availability of public or private community-based organizations and resources for treatment or rehabilitation of individuals with mental health. * Capacity to establish rapport and deal tactfully with persons from different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds. * Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of healthcare administration. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team and with other clinicians. * Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of general medicine; and of principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans. * Ability to recognize medical conditions and refer for appropriate care. * Capacity to provide necessary self-care and demonstrate appropriate professional boundaries and behavior. * Thoroughness, independence, and excellent written and oral communication skills. * Competence in maintaining accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information; resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner. * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. _About the Massachusetts Mental Health Center:_ The Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC) is a psychiatric facility at 74 Fenwood Road in the Longwood Medical area of Boston, Massachusetts.
