Boston University Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Practice Provider, Hematology/Oncology in Boston, Massachusetts
APP Maternity coverage need (30-40 hrs./wk., 4-5 days/week)
Hematology/Oncology ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER – The Hematology/Oncology Section at Boston University School of Medicine/Boston Medical Center is seeking an NP or PA for our rapidly expanding practice. Our section provides a full range of cancer care to a diverse patient population in the city of Boston and includes a robust clinical trials program.
We are currently recruiting for an advanced practitioner for maternity coverage. The focus of this position is to provide evaluation and medical management to patients with cancer. They follow patients during their chemotherapy and provide medical supportive care, as well as surveillance after completion of treatment. The Advanced Practice Provider assesses and manages health needs of patients, addresses treatment-related toxicities, monitors for cancer progression or recurrence and consults with professional peers as needed. They work collaboratively with the medical oncology team as well as radiation and surgical oncology to coordinate care of their patients.
In addition to clinical care, the practitioner will also participate in teaching conferences and relevant tumor boards. Teaching and mentoring opportunities for NP and PA students from area programs, including the PA program at Boston University, are also available.
Performs comprehensive histories and physicals, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial concerns.
Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Evaluates and manages on-treatment and post-treatment side effects, as well as long-term surveillance and survivorship issues.
Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and teams to ensure safe, effective and timely treatment, as well as continuity of care
Participates in clinical trials and research
Educates, counsels and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventative behaviors
Writes accurate and timely progress notes

NP or PA certification is required. A minimum 2 years of practice experience is highly recommended.
Bilingual in Spanish, Haitian Creole or Portuguese a plus
