The Nurse Manager in the Operating Room works in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to oversee patient centered perioperative care to both pediatric and adult patients undergoing a variety of elective, urgent and emergent surgical procedures. The Nurse Manager is a key member of the Perioperative Services leadership team and partners with multidisciplinary team members to achieve and monitor desired operational goals within their service or service grouping while also ensuring that standards of perioperative nursing practice and regulatory requirements are maintained.


Oversees OR Staff and Core Tech daily duties and assignments

Manages daily patient perioperative flow for their services

Participates in the staff management (hiring, corrective action, appraisals and terminations) with CNDs

Evaluates staff performance

Monitors and facilitates efficient first case starts and room turnover

Responsible for internal problem resolution and troubleshooting related to daily operations

Maintains continuous communication with schedulers to help solve scheduling issues and improve OR utilization

Proactively communicates any changes to the room schedule with all impacted team members

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to triage urgent or emergent add-ons

Partners with multidisciplinary team members to maximize clinical, quality and operational performance

Presents service specific operational dashboards at divisional meetings

Manages ongoing staff education on new procedures, products and equipment

Participates in policy development and implementation

Accountable for the operational performance of the service line(s)

Develops service line competencies in conjunction with the Professional Development Director

Evaluates staff to ensure competencies are met and practice is adherent to policies and standards

Assesses staff learning needs and develops remedial education plans when necessary

Participates in the onboarding and training of novice, experienced and Periop 101 new hires.

Analyzes data reports to increase efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance and clinical performance


Must have Operating Room experience

Bachelor's Degree of Nursing required

BLS required

Applicants currently enrolled in a Baccalaureate Program will be considered

Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License Required
