What You’ll Be Doing:

Motivational Interviewing Trainer/Coach Role

This role is a remote/work from home position through Vital Decisions www.vitaldecisions.net , a subsidiary of New Century Health. We are hiring individuals for our Learning and Development Team with motivational interviewing clinical backgrounds and have experience in coaching and training. This position assists in the training and onboarding of clinical staff - include counselors, social workers, and other Master-level behavioral health professionals who have a passion and heart to serve people navigating advanced stages of illness such as cancer, heart disease, and other serious illness. Our program focus is to help people think ahead about what matters most to them as they navigate changes in their health. And our services support individuals to articulate, document, and share their values, preferences, and wishes for healthcare they desire now and in the future. Our purpose is clear. We help people get clear about their preferences for care so they can communicate their wishes with people who matter most, with medical providers, and the healthcare system. When that happens, care that is delivered is more likely to be aligned with the patient’s wishes - resulting in higher quality care and higher patient satisfaction.

Our Learning and Development team provides support to our clinical operations through exemplary training in the evidence based clinical approach of motivational interviewing which compassionately honors and amplifies the voice of the patient in healthcare. In the role of a Training/Coach, there is oversite of newly hired clinical staff learning and development of their day-to-day duties which includes conducting a high volume telephonic outreach to introduce the program offering to individual members of our contracted health plans/employer groups and activating and enrolling new participants into our program focused on Advance Care Planning.

Responsibilities:

New Hire Learning

  • Support the delivery of a comprehensive training curriculum for Vital Decisions core telephonic products which include: foundational knowledge of end-of-life care and advanced care planning strategies and best practices, the advanced illness and end-of-life experience, motivational interviewing concepts, strategies and skills, telephonic and video delivery format, CRM documentation processes.

  • Support training needs of new product training and development.

  • Collaborate in the facilitation of new hire curriculum delivery combining classroom learning with direct coaching and group learning opportunities.

  • Oversee a team of clinical operations staff for 3-4 months during their initial onboarding experience. Lead, coach, and take responsibility to ensure newly hired employees gain knowledge and demonstrate initial competency in key aspects of the role including ACP knowledge acquisition, behavioral model of intervention of Motivational Interviewing, and workflow and process guidelines necessary for success.

  • Monitor quality and quantity of knowledge and skill acquisition and adapt coaching to ensure learning styles are supported at all times and learning goals are met or exceeded. · Provide administrative oversight and support to new hire clinical staff, including monitoring and addressing attendance, productivity, and work performance issues if they arise, and monitoring morale, stress, and job satisfaction to support success and longevity in the role.

  • Partner with Clinical Operations Supervisors in introducing and integrating new hire clinical staff into the organization by supporting and cultivating a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • Develop and deliver learning content in collaboration with VP and Manager that supports new hire curriculum enhancement (eLearning, micro-lessons, job aids, experiential learning opportunities, curriculum enhancers, coaching aids, visual tools etc.).

  • Monitor factors that contribute to clinical staff productivity success in program delivery (i.e. call volume, call results, call process, documentation, outreach efforts to standards.

  • Utilize data in CRM and in data reports to interpret performance results – adjust coaching accordingly.

Ongoing Workforce Development

  • Collaborate with VP, Clinical Operations to create and deliver curriculum and continuous learning experiences for the clinical operations staff to ensure the organization meets or exceeds program goals.

  • Deliver a high quality coaching program that results in growth and development of workforce.

  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations Supervisors to design learning interventions and coaching plans to ensure clinical staff meet annual and short-term learning goals and objectives aligned with program improvement metrics.

  • Conduct call reviews to assess improvement during coaching or training.

  • Collaborate with quality department to ensure quality standards are supported in all L&D activities and continuous improvement initiatives are integrated into learning curriculum.

  • Assist with the ACP certification process including development of qualitative coaching feedback using quantitative coding measures. Facilitate information sessions and guide clinical staff and their Supervisors to prepare for a successful certification process.

Other Projects

  • Participate in recruiting efforts, including interviews, role plays, and scoring assessment tools used in the process.

  • Support of DEI Strategy as pertains to L&D activities.

  • Collaborate with others in the onboarding of new employees from supporting departments.

  • Support development of curriculum including eLearning, self-guided modules, virtual classroom based, and coaching interventions in ongoing manner.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of learning and development offerings and partner with VP and Manager to engage in continuous improvement and redevelopment of materials and training modalities.

  • Support of the Learning Management System, including uploading eLearnings, monitoring completion, troubleshooting, etc.

  • Engage in other projects as requested by VP.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or direct training and development, or training/coaching experience that is commensurate.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Motivational Interviewing required. Member of MINT preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a team of employees. Management/Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively leading individual and group learning exercises, mentoring, coaching, and motivating individuals’ learning and growth, supporting high quality service delivery, and fostering a collaborative and performance oriented work environment.

  • Experience leading projects and timelines to completion.

  • Crisp and effective communication skills including public speaking experience, writing, curriculum development, and delivery of motivating feedback.

  • Exposure to serious illness and healthcare decisions making, needs of caregivers preferred

  • Knowledge of how to read and interpret MITI coding instruments, preferred

  • Prior experience with substance use treatment modalities and referral services (For Navigator Program only)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of learning and management activities for consistent and effective onboarding of new hire staff. Flexibility to be able to support different types of learners.

  • Strong organizational abilities, including goal-setting and planning, work stream prioritizing, proactive identification of near-term challenges, creative problem-solving, attention to detail.

  • Solid time management capabilities in order to execute learning programs and deliver on L&D projects in a fast paced, high performing environment consistently meeting or exceeding timelines.

  • Positive people skills, including listening and communication, providing direction, collaborative group problem-solving, growth orientation toward self and others.

  • Demonstrated initiative and motivation.

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design using various training modalities preferred (classroom, e-learning, LMS experience highly desired).

  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm and optimism with learners inspiring continued interest in growth and professional development.

  • Ability to read and interpret data and reports to plan coaching interventions that support learning needs, knowledge acquisition, and skill development.

  • Capacity to evaluate coaching interventions for continuous improvement and optimizing performance of workforce to meet and exceed organizational learning objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively partner, collaborate, and communicate with Living Well leadership team toward learning goals for new hires as well as tenured clinical staff in coaching.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with leaders across the organization to achieve organizational priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach, support, and guide Master level clinicians and their Supervisors using coaching and other training techniques resulting in measurable improvement over time.

  • Ability to design and deliver learning aids, job tools, micro-lessons for clinical workforce using creative and novel approaches.

  • Proven record of accomplishment of understanding and responding to others in a manner that leads to greater motivation for learning including being able to diffuse and redirect strong emotions, foster a positive and supportive learning environment, and drive a culture of performance.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office product suite, Videoconferencing products, Workday, Learning Management System, eLearning platform (Articulate), as well as other software programs on a daily basis.

  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize new programs and systems, as well as teach them to others

Travel Required

The position is fully remote. Occasional travel, up to 2x per year to office locations.

Physical Demands

Technical requirements:

Currently, Evolent employees work remotely temporarily due to COVID-19. Compensation Range: The typical range of employees within the compensation grade of this position is $60,000 - $80,000. Salaries are determined by the skill set required for the position and commensurate with experience and may vary above and below the stated amounts.
