Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Job Summary:  

We are seeking a per diem Medical Secretary to help support our staff at the Barbara McInnis House. This role will provide skilled administrative and clerical support for our Respite medical staff and will be responsible for the day-to-day organization and administrative support of medical personnel.  This position plays a crucial role in assuring the continuity of patient care and is an essential link for effective communication across all departments.

Hours:   Per Diem; as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, confirm and record patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries and medical consultations and communicate this information to unit secretaries and providers.

  • Receive and route messages and documents such as laboratory results to appropriate medical staff.

  • Facilitate communications between patients and staff to ensure issues are addressed completely and followed up upon as necessary including regarding patients changes in patient appointments, taking questions.

  • Assists in document/correspondence preparation, performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining files, processing paperwork and transmit correspondence.

  • Oversee the processing of prior authorizations for MassHealth.

  • Must be able to maintain HIPPA compliance.

  • Prepare correspondence and assist providers with preparation of reports, speeches, articles and conference proceedings.

  • Other projects and assignments as required.

    Qualifications:

  • Prior office administration experience in a medical setting desired.

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Excellent customer service orientation, working knowledge medical office procedures, as well as medical terminology desired.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required; ability to communicate urgency when requesting outside medical appointments, based on a patient needs desired.

  • Proficient reading and writing in English, though bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred; additional compensation for demonstrated verbal proficiency.

    Compensation:

  • Compensation for this position is $22.00 per hour.
