State of Massachusetts Maternal Health and Doula Project Coordinator (Contractor) in Boston, Massachusetts

The Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a consultant who will coordinate maternal and infant health initiatives to improve maternal and infant outcomes across the Commonwealth. The consultant will work within the Division of Pregnancy, Infancy & Early Childhood in the Bureau of Family Health & Nutrition (BFHN) and in close collaboration with the Office of Community Health Workers in the Bureau of Community Health & Prevention (BCHAP). Under the direction of the Director of Maternal Health Initiatives, the Consultant will be responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of a doula credentialing process and provide programmatic support to additional maternal and infant health programs including perinatal mental health and maternal mortality and morbidity. This position is 37.5 hours weekly. The consultant will work in the DPH Central office. /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/ * Complete an environmental scan of doula certification/credentialing processes, identifying best practices and lessons learned from other municipalities, organizations and other states. * Cross walk the current Massachusetts Community Health Worker Certification Core Competencies with Doula Core Competencies, identifying synergy and gaps in job responsibilities. * Collaborate with the Office of Community Health Workers, partnering agencies, and Massachusetts Doulas to develop and implement a doula credentialing process. * Provide logistical support for the development and implementation of a Doula Network in MA. * Conduct focus groups with Doulas as needed. * Develop relevant educational materials as appropriate (i.e. Infographics, flyers). * Coordinate and provide support to the maternal mortality review process including requesting medical records from health care institutions. * Provide consultation to others on Doula services. * Establish and maintain a Doula Listserv as needed. * Convene regular meetings with stakeholders as appropriate. /_Required Qualifications:_ / * Experience as a Doula required. * High School degree or GED required. /_Preferred Qualifications: _/ * Knowledge of public health principles and practices including principles of health equity and community and family engagement. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Ability to listen well and to demonstrate cultural humility. * Proficiency utilizing computer applications (such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. * Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and oversee multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment. * Proficiency establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with others. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of staff demonstrating personal initiative as well as the ability to work well in a team. * Capacity to work independently, with attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize inquires and tasks appropriately. * Experience working with low-income/low-resourced communities. * College credits/ courses and doula credentialing/certification preferred. * Candidates with Bilingual skills preferred. _Contract Period of Service:__ _7/1/21 - 6/30/2024 -/Renewable subject to appropriation./ _Additional Information:_ * Benefits are unavailablewith the exception of sick leave accruals. * Contracts are renewable, subject to the Department approval, performance and allocation of funds. * All employees will be paid on a biweekly basis and must have direct deposit. /_DPH Mission Statement:_/ The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth.
