GE Vernova Leader, Executive Counsel, Corporate Litigation in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description Summary

We are looking for a highly experienced Executive Counsel to join the GE Vernova Corporate Litigation team, reporting directly to GE Vernova’s Global Chief Litigation Counsel. The Executive Counsel will lead the company’s response to significant litigation, arbitration and disputes across all GE Vernova business segments globally, but with an expected emphasis on major U.S. risks and contract, warranty, product liability, and project construction matters. The Executive Counsel will serve as a proactive advisor to GE Vernova’s business segment litigators, General Counsels, and commercial teams, and is expected to have significant engagement with the Senior Leadership team both at GE Vernova headquarters and its many businesses. In addition, the Executive Counsel will coordinate with the Company’s Government Relations, Communications, Finance, Insurance, Risk, Securities and Audit teams both at Corporate and across the businesses to manage financial, media and reputational risk. The Executive Counsel will also assist in leading the Company’s global litigation function and teams across all businesses.

The role requires top tier legal domain expertise and significant experience resolving complex, high stakes litigation matters; strong communication skills; the ability to analyze and present complex situations in concise, compelling terms to drive crisp decision-making; and a demonstrated ability to develop trusted relationships with senior leaders and across all legal, functional and commercial teams.

Successful performance of this role is expected to have a substantial impact on the financial results of both GE Vernova and each of its business Segments, by mitigating major claims and reputational risks.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities :

The Executive Counsel will have the following responsibilities:

Lead and manage significant, complex litigation, arbitration, and disputes for the Company in the U.S. and globally, with an expected emphasis on major contract, warranty, product liability, and project construction claims.

Develop and implement litigation and claim resolution strategies in complex matters in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsel.

Provide thoughtful, concise, actionable legal advice to senior management and other internal clients and work collaboratively with these stakeholders to guide strategic decision-making and drive optimal legal and commercial resolutions.

Collaborate with commercial, compliance and risk management teams to address potential litigation risks proactively, identify and implement lessons learned, define process improvements, and lead training initiatives.

Work as part of the global litigation function to drive policies, simplification initiatives and consistent standards for litigation management and reporting across the Company.

Retain and manage outside counsel, ensuring effective and cost-efficient representation.

Identify emerging legal trends and developments that may impact the company’s legal and reputational risk exposure.

Collaborate with commercial, compliance and risk management teams to address potential litigation risks proactively.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.

Member in good standing of one or more U.S. state bars or the D.C. bar and, where required, in house counsel registration or admission to the candidate’s local U.S. state bar.

Minimum of 10 years of litigation and arbitration experience, preferably in-house or with a reputable law firm.

Substantial experience in high stakes U.S. litigation matters, as well as product liability and project disputes litigation and international arbitration experience globally, preferably with both a leading law firm and in-house with a large multinational corporation.

Strong demonstrated legal writing acumen and presentation skills.

Demonstrated strategic judgment addressing complex legal problems and litigation risks consistent with business priorities.

Desired Characteristics:

Significant, direct trial, litigation, and arbitration experience, including both U.S. and international arbitration and litigation, with a proven track record of success.

Domain expertise across multiple areas of law impacting the Company, including contract, warranty, product liability, construction, and benefits law.

Experience leading major litigation and arbitration matters as an in-house attorney.

Substantial experience of direct engagement with clients and ability to effectively advise clients.

Proven track record of effectively interacting at all levels in a matrix organization from senior-level executives to all other employee groups; ability to influence stakeholders and drive change.

Superior advocacy, negotiation, writing and presentation skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex circumstances and recommendations clearly and concisely and influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve optimal results.

Executive presence needed to drive relationships of trust with the Company’s highest levels of senior management, along with a proven track record of effectively interacting at all levels of a matrixed organization.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the demonstrated ability to assimilate complex factual and legal challenges with relevant commercial and financial considerations, to develop compelling strategies for successful outcomes.

Experience managing legal, financial, and reputational risks working collaboratively across a wide range of company functions, including Legal & Compliance, Finance, Controllership, Communications, Government Relations, Insurance, Risk, Securities and Audit.

Ability to think clearly under pressure and the composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests while maintaining a high quality of work.

Ability to work independently and to think clearly and act decisively under pressure in an evolving, fast-paced environment, and to make critical strategic decisions without direct oversight.

A work history that affirmatively demonstrates leadership, and ability to persuade and push others to deliver on commitments.

Excellent project management and prioritization skills.

Record of dedicated and successful teamwork, excellent interpersonal and diplomatic abilities.

Strong knowledge and understanding of the energy/power generation sector and products

A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism, and passion for excellence.

Experience working in different international cultures and an open and tolerant mind with respect to diversity.

French, German, Spanish or Portuguese language fluency

The base pay range for this position is $230,000 to $250,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 35% performance bonus and equity. This posting is expected to remain open until at least March 18, 2025.
