Under general supervision of the Operating Room Attendant Supervisor, provides oversight of OR Attendants in the absent of the supervisor. Standard work includes maintaining cleanliness and order in the operating rooms, assisting in the movement of patients at the direction of a licensed provider, transporting patients, surgical patient shave and prep as necessary, providing assistance in securing medical equipment/supplies, orienting new staff, Lead OR Attendant is responsible for directing Attendants to room turnovers, stocking, and other functions previously listed. Lead OR Attendant will be responsible for checking that tasks are done correctly and in a timely manner.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

1) Collaborates with Evening OR Charge RN to ensure that task requests are performed immediately. (Essential)

2) Performs day to day attendant duties as necessary. (Essential)

3) Performs surgical skin preparation (shaving) on appropriate patients.

4) Ensured attendants complete their assignment on a nightly basis, directs and supports attendants in their daily work activities.

5) Transports specimens to appropriate laboratories when necessary according to BILH policy.

6) Delivers blood products to the appropriate surgical suite and ensure all unused blood and plasma is returned to the blood bank in a timely manner. (Essential)

7) Collaborates with linen management and the OR Supply team to ensure that enough linen and supplies are available to meet par levels.

8) Assists equipment technicians to obtain special equipment necessary for the surgical procedure based on pick tickets and special needs.

9) Uses equipment in a safe and effective manner; reporting issues or repairs and other pertinent information regarding the condition of the environment of care to Service Response and Charge RN.

10) Training of new hires.

11) Anticipates staffing needs of the next day and alerts supervisor.

12) Acts as the central point of contact person for attendants on the evening shift.

13) Dispose of hazardous waste in the appropriate manner.

14) Monitor bed-tracking and responsible for pagers.

15) Incorporates BILH Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.

16) Participates in performance improvement practices.

17) Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and BILH.

18) Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.

19) Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.

20) Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer. Service standards.

21) Resolves complaints as required in collaboration and guidance with supervisor & evening charge nurse. (Essential)

22) Successfully completes Mandatory Education.

23) Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Requires high school diploma or equivalency

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.

  • Applies critical thinking towards daily planning, case preparation, and equipment and patient safety. Ability to function at a level of autonomy.

Experience: Three to five years’ related work experience required and a minimum of one year supervisory/lead experience in healthcare setting preferred.
