HCA Pharmacy Technician

Department Description:Healthcare Associates is a robust primary care practice with over 41,000 patients. As part of the healthcare team, the pharmacy technician collaborates with providers and staff to optimize care delivery to patients. The pharmacy team facilitates medication renewals and offers support and guidance to patients requiring prior authorizations, assistance with insurance or formulary questions, etc.

This is a full time 40 hours per week position Monday to Friday.

Job Summary:Responsible for processing medication renewals, formulary inquiries, and prior authorizations. Obtains required clinical information to process and submit prior authorization requests in timely manner. Collaborates with Clinical Pharmacist, providers (MD and NP) and other members of the healthcare team to ensure efficient processing of requests or insurance coverage inquiries. Assists in developing standards for pharmacy workflow operations enhancing quality patient-centered care.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Renews routine/maintenance medication requests (telephonic, fax, Patientsite, E- prescription queue) for patients. Manages the administrative responsibilities for faxing, filing, mailing, and documenting status in medical record of non-electronically routable prescriptions.

  • Responds efficiently to formulary and medication assistance program inquiries and prioritizes efforts to address needs effectively and safely.

  • Facilitates the completion of Medicare forms for diabetes supplies and COPD medications.

  • Assists with medication reconciliations.

  • Investigates and resolves prescription issues and communicates directly with patients providing clarification on directions for prescriptions.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Registration Registered Pharmacy Tech required., and Certificate 1 Pharm Tech Cert Board required., or Certificate 2 EXCPT required.

  • 3-5 years related work experience required in healthcare.

  • Knowledge of prior-authorization workflows, payer relations, prescription claims adjudication, and general reimbursement procedures.

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with diverse groups of professionals (physicians, nurses, administration, etc.).

  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with prior authorizations.

  • Customer Service:Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
