The Genetic Counselor I will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing daily operations of Robert’s Program. Translational research involves genetics, neuropathology, pathology, metabolomics, neurology and cardiology exploring the biological basis of sudden death in children. Plays an integral, coordinating role in a dynamic team that defines human disorders and identifies genetic variants.

  • First contact with families who have experienced a sudden unexpected loss. Scheduling family intakes and case reviews. Ongoing contact with families.

  • Acting liaison between Robert’s Program, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, BCH Biorepository, and the Broad Institute.

  • Coordinating clinical materials from medical examiners, ancillary testing sites, primary care practices, OB/Gyn offices, and hospitals.

  • Contributing to the developing research protocols and consent forms as required by the Committee on Clinical Investigations (IRB). Assist in identifying and preparing funding applications.

  • Developing and maintaining systems, including databases, for data collection to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of study operations and data management. Tests data validity, identifies and resolves errors or discrepancies.

  • Facilitating participation in research studies. Obtaining informed consent from individuals/families.

  • Providing genetic counseling to individuals and families. Obtaining and interpreting family history, clinical and genetic findings, and project risk to participants.

    To qualify, you must have...

  • A Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

  • Current Massachusetts licensure as a Genetic Counselor by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration of Genetic Counselors in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 112, Sections 227-233.

  • Board certification as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to employ good judgment in prioritizing tasks. An interest in managing clinical research studies is a plus.

  • Strong computer skills. Familiarity with database development, RedCap, and/or Endnote is a plus.
