POSITION OVERVIEW:
Boston Public Schools (BPS) is looking for a skilled and experienced Data Systems Analyst to join the Applications and Systems Integration team within the BPS Technology Department. The ideal candidate will be involved in designing, developing, and maintaining technology solutions that support the district’s educational goals, enhance data integration, and improve data-driven decision-making. These technology solutions include, but are not limited to, enterprise systems such as the Student Information System (SIS), the Ed-Fi operational data store, and the student assignment algorithm.

A strong curiosity about investigating, learning, and improving solutions is essential. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, appreciate measurable results, and remain determined when facing challenges. RESPONSIBILITIES :
System & process management
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across BPS to gather requirements, develop technical specifications, and implement innovative solutions.
Design, test, and manage essential features in critical systems, like internally developed APIs, that comply with Ed-Fi standards to enhance data interoperability and improve educational processes.
Ensure technology solutions comply with data security and privacy regulations, including FERPA and relevant state-level requirements.
Engage with colleagues to understand and enhance practices, including data quality monitoring, process documentation and improvement, safeguarding student data, and knowledge management.
Data Management:
Manipulate large volumes of educational data to support reporting, analytics, and decision-making.
Contribute to the design and maintenance of data quality monitoring tools.
Design and implement solutions that engage data owners in ensuring data quality.
Collaboration
Collaborate with IT team members, central office and school-based staff, and external vendors to identify opportunities for enhancing technology.
Engage in cross-functional teams and projects focused on educational technology initiatives.
Assist with ad hoc data requests for key internal stakeholders when needed.
Provide training and support to end-users and other IT staff as required.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or at least two years of relevant experience
Demonstrated expertise in technical skills like SQL, programming languages, and programming methodologies.
Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Strong skills in multi-tasking and prioritization.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
In-depth understanding of the importance of robust data governance, quality, and completeness.
Self-motivated with a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.
Current authorization to work in the United States
An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment.
A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education.
QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED :
Familiarity with educational data systems and databases.
Knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) methodologies and tools.
Experience and understanding of Ed-Fi standards, Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) and data integration.
At least 1 year of experience working with Ed-Fi certified system.
Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools

COMPENSATION RANGE: C51 $108,859
