The Faja Lab within the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience (LCN) at Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a Research Study Coordinator for an NIH-funded project examining the emergence of executive function difficulties in young children with autism spectrum disorder relative to children with developmental delays or no developmental concerns. Research in the LCN is broadly focused on furthering our understanding of brain and cognitive development in children diagnosed with or at risk for various developmental disorders. Through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, we aim to drive the science forward as rapidly as possible, so that we can translate what we learn into earlier identification, improved therapies, and better outcomes for children and families affected by developmental disorders.

The Clinical Research Specialist I shall be responsible for:

  • Working primarily on a project that will examine biological and behavioral markers associated with executive and social functioning in preschool aged children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), developmental delays, and no developmental concerns. The project will use electrophysiology, behavioral, clinical, and parent report measures in a group of children who are participating at multiple time points.

  • Providing oversight of day-to-day operations of the project and subject flow for the longitudinal project.

  • Being directly involved with recruiting and scheduling participants and will oversee data collection, entry, and management.

  • Training and coordinating a team of undergraduate students, graduate students, fellows, and staff members associated with the research project.

  • Grant preparation, preparing progress reports, and IRB management.

  • Overseeing a database that includes physiological, behavioral, clinical, and parent report data across time points and coordinate data sharing with NIMH.

  • Performing standardized developmental and cognitive assessments as well as EEG and behavioral measures, provide behavioral assistance to children during visits, and coordinate collection of surveys from parents.

  • Contributing to data processing, scoring, and cleaning and will have the opportunity to assist with analysis.

In order to qualify you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or Masters of Science and one year of work experience in a research setting working with human subjects.

  • Availability for flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends to facilitate visits with families with a variety of work and school schedules

  • Previous professional experience with children or with autism spectrum disorders

  • Ability to assist with grant preparation, publications, presentations and/or applications to an Institutional Review Board

Preferred experience includes:

  • Knowledge of psychophysiological/electrophysiological recording

  • Knowledge of basic statistics software (e.g. Excel, SPSS) and/or basic experimental presentation and collection software (e.g., ePrime, Redcap, Matlab, Netstation)

  • Experience with administering and scoring standardized measures of autism symptoms (e.g., the ADOS, ADI-R) or developmental measures (e.g., the Mullen, Vineland-3)
