State of Massachusetts Clinical Practices Reviewer in Boston, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to participate in the review and development of policies and procedures and conduct clinical oversight activities for the Medication Administration Program (MAP). Through training and rigorous standards, MAP makes it possible for direct care staff to safely store and administer medications to individuals living in MAP registered community programs that are their primary residences and/or participating in day programs and short-term respite programs. /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/ * Provide clinical perspective for policy development and overall program oversight; * Review the clinical and administrative practices of registered DMH, DDS,MRC,and DCF community programs; * Review service provider policies and procedures related to medication storage and medication administration by MAP Certified direct care staff; * Plan and conduct field inspections and investigations to determine the level of compliance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations and standards; * Review and analyze deficiency records and reporting systems, including Hotline medication occurrence reporting; * Document findings and identify areas requiring corrective action; * Review and monitor corrective action plans; * Assist with site registration of community programs; * Perform related duties such as attending meetings and conferences; conducting research; compiling statistics; and preparing technical reports on assigned programs and activities. /_Location:_/ This is a Boston-based position reporting to 250 Washington Street. This position requires frequent in-state travel of at least one day per week. /_Required Qualifications:_/ * Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing including terminology. * Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health/community health nursing including terminology. * Knowledge of the standard nursing methods and techniques followed in the administration of medication, injections, and preparations, and the application of medical and/or surgical dressings. * Knowledge of the types and characteristics of drugs used in providing nursing care. /_Preferred Qualifications_:/ * Knowledge of the Massachusetts Medication Administration Program (MAP) allowing unlicensed persons to administer medication in applicable settings and MAP associated regulations and policies. * Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing the possession, storage, distribution, dispensing, prescribing and administration of medications, including controlled substances. * Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and handling techniques used in the possession, storage, distribution, dispensing, prescribing and administration of medication, including controlled substances. * Knowledge of the problems in providing public health nursing services to distinctive groups of individuals such as individuals with intellectual disabilities, individuals diagnosed with mental health illnesses, etc. * Ability to prepare general reports. _About the Department of Public Health (DPH) _ The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in public health nursing or community health nursing work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: A Graduate degree with a major in public health nursing, community health nursing or public health may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
