Boston University Chair, Department of General Dentistry, School of Dental Medicine, General Dentistry in Boston, Massachusetts

The Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine seeks an outstanding leader to Chair the Department of General Dentistry, the School’s largest academic department involved in the implementation of the 4-year Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and 2-year international Advanced Standing DMD degree program. This is a full-time five day per week non-tenure track appointment at either the associate professor or professor rank. The chair is responsible for continued implementation and integration of the predoctoral curriculum, administration, strategic planning, resource management, and fostering development of junior faculty. The successful applicant is expected to provide strong leadership and direct involvement in the department’s didactic and clinical education, research, and service missions. The position is available for immediate appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and academic rank.

Required Skills

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Dentist possessing a DMD/DDS degree from a Commission on Dental Accreditation accredited program, or equivalent international dental degree

  • Academic credentials warranting appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor, with or without an academic modifier (e.g., “clinical”)

  • Licensed or licensure-eligible in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • At least five years of administrative and leadership experience in an academic setting (e.g., section, division, or department)

  • Distinguished record of administration, teaching (clinical and didactic), scholarship/research and clinical experience in dentistry

  • Record of success in mentoring and developing faculty and supporting them in their academic and teaching endeavors

  • Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, and professional demeanor
