The Asthma Clinical Practice Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Working with clinicians in different asthma clinics, helping to ensure that they are up to date on the latest asthma medication and therapies.

  • Providing education, leading quality improvement initiatives and working collaboratively with clinicians are key components of this position.

  • Providing education to nursing and medical staff re. asthma pathophysiology, medications, devices, and cutting edge treatments.

  • Developing systems that will streamline and improve care, metric collection and documentation related to asthma.

  • Creating and maintaining family asthma education sheets. Producing videos as needed.

  • Planning annual Allergy & Asthma conference. Creating agenda, inviting speakers, assisting with application for contact hours.

  • Identifying and leading Quality Improvements initiatives related to asthma. Co-chairing Asthma QI working group, working with Department of Pediatrics and clinics as projects arise. Co-chairing asthma clinical team committee and Asthma Executive committee. Coordinating community-based Asthma Swim Programs and planning annual World Asthma Day Community Health Fair. Applying for grants and dispersing funds as appropriate to support and enhance asthma care and initiatives.

  • Providing educational talks for the Community Education Initiative.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Current certification as an Asthma Educator (AE-C) by NAECB, National Asthma Educator Certified Board or in process of achieving certification as an asthma educator (AE-C). This certification must be achieved within 2 years from date of hire or transfer.

  • Five (5) years of experience as an RN; experience in education required.

Please note: During a public health emergency, individuals in this role may be expected to take on additional duties to respond to organizational needs.
