This Animal Research Technician II will be responsible for:
Conducting important pre-clinical immunological research with non-human primate model.
Daily observation, research medication dosing, biological sampling (blood draws, bone marrow aspiration, CSF collection, and simple biopsies).
Surgical and post-operative support, and maintaining tether systems.
Daily communication with the team regarding animal status and project progress, maintaining research and medical records, scheduling, coordinating with investigators as well as veterinary other staff, inventory control, supply ordering, welfare and compliance monitoring.
In order to qualify, you must have:
Bachelor’s degree in biological or animal sciences or related field.
Minimum of 2-year experience of supporting complex research animal models.
Knowledge of technical/sampling procedures in nonhuman primates or other large animals.
Thorough understanding of large animal protocols, regulations and ability to comply with IACUC requirements.
Able to provide for and ensure the welfare of animals under the care of this position, working effectively with veterinary and animal care staff.
The team relies heavily on each other so a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must!
Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays, as required.
Effective written and oral communication skills, and ability to write legibly and follow instructions precisely Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, and good attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency using MS Office and excellent organizational skills.
Knowledge of hazardous chemical handling requirements (cleaning agents, anesthetic agents).
Knowledge of exposure to potential allergens (animal fur, animal dander).
Ability to follow safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions specific to researcher protocol requirements.
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently; must be able to collaborate effectively and work as a member of a team.
American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Certification at the LAT or LATg level and/or LVT.
Experience with nonhuman primate models.
