Plans and implements performance improvements and outreach education on behalf of the Trauma Program
Collaborates with the Trauma Manager, Trauma Program Director, Trauma Registrars and other disciplines to review the performance and safety of the Trauma Center in its mission to evaluate issues, promote loop closure, and optimize clinical outcomes.
Develops the quality improvement program of the Trauma Department in accordance with American College of Surgeon Committee on Trauma Guidelines. Develops and participates in data systems to analyze patient outcomes and ensure optimal care.
Maintains all current trauma protocols and updates per organizational guidelines and as needed.
Responsible for patient follow-ups to referring agencies and providers. This will incorporate medical record review, evaluation of the patient clinical course and relevant outcomes. Maintains database of referral contacts.
Develops and implements outreach efforts to improve trauma outcomes with local hospitals and pre-hospital providers. Coordinate with city, regional, state and governmental agencies to identify education needs, develop and implement programs.
Participates in the preparation for the tri-annual American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma re-certification visit. Plays a key role in compiling trauma education and outreach efforts to meet the ACS guidelines for Level 3 status.
Prepares Trauma Multidisciplinary PIPS Committee for the adult trauma service bimonthly.
Assist in providing feedback to transferring hospital staff and physicians as well as EMS/Specialists
In conjunction with the Trauma Program Medical Director and Trauma Program Nurse Director, reviews trauma cases and provides feedback re: QI issues to health care providers both within and outside hospital.
Attends resuscitations of patients triaged as Trauma Activations, when available.
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
License Registered Nurse required.
3-5 years related work experience required.
Knowledge of trauma, emergency, and/or pre-hospital EMS systems.
Certified in Trauma Nursing Core Course, Instructor Preferred.
Experience with computer database systems required, including web based applications and Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Experience in education program development; prior teaching and program planning experience.
