Job Summary

The Magnetic Resonance (MR) Technician will perform MR imaging and spectroscopy procedures in the UMass AmherstInstitute for Applied Life Science (https://www.umass.edu/ials/) (IALS)Human Magnetic Resonance Center (hMRC) (https://www.umass.edu/ials/hmrc) .

Essential Functions

  • Performs advanced research techniques & procedures in a Core-specific science.

  • Provides day-to-day supervision of specialized Core facilities.

  • Maintains Core financial records and databases for tracking invoicing and customer usage.

  • Provides timely technical support to user groups.

  • Maintains and services instrumentation.

  • Provides support for implementation of new techniques and improvements in technology to keep Core competitive and state-of-the-art.

  • Provides support for Center Director and staff to establish, update and implement safety and operating protocols.

  • Ensures appropriate IRB (Institutional Review Board)/Human Subjects approval for studies.

  • Oversees subject safety, researching implants and providing safety training to staff.

    Other Functions

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • One to two (1-2) years' experience working in radiology, physics, or related field.

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as MR technician.

  • Certified Magnetic Resonance Technician (CRT).

  • Associate’s Degree or higher.

  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required MR certification/licensure.

  • CPR Training required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology, as well as a high level of knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, as well as organizational skills.

    Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Typical research laboratory / MR center conditions.

    Work Schedule

  • Part-time, 18.75 - 37 hours per week.

    Salary Information

USA/MTA Grade 21
