State of Massachusetts Paralegal - Public Records in 10 Park Plaza, Massachusetts
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating transportation policies and projects for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and to efficiently plan, design, construct, and maintain a safe statewide transportation system which effectively meets the transportation needs of the Commonwealth. MassDOT’s divisions include: Highway, Aeronautics, Registry, Rail & Transit and Programs &Planning. There are approximately 3,600 employees that work in the department. In addition, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Regional Transit Authorities (RTA) are subject to oversight by MassDOT.
The Paralegal - Public Records, will provide a range of legal support and administrative duties to attorneys within the Corporate and Regulatory Center of Excellence. The Paralegal will support a number of attorneys who report to Senior Lead Counsels and the Managing Counsel of this Center of Excellence.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide legal and factual research
Perform records research and retrieval, including e-discovery and use of e-discovery, redaction, and other technology based tools
Investigate, organize, and analyze large quantities of information
Cross-check and validate information and prepare documents for production
Help prepare legal documents such as correspondence, memoranda, agreements, and responses to public records requests and subpoenas
Organize and track case matter files within a legal case management system
Perform related duties as assigned
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent research and analytical skills
A self-starter with strong planning and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task, and deadline–driven environment
Strong attention to detail and accuracy

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience in legal research or legal assistant work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in paralegal studies may be substituted for the required experience.
II. Completion of one year of study at a recognized, degree-granting law school may be substituted for the required experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required.
