The Janitor IV participates in maintaining buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition, and supervises employees. The incumbent maintains the appearance and cleanliness of floors; washes interior surfaces of buildings; maintains grounds around buildings; empties waste receptacles; shovels snow; and performs related work as required.
/Please note:/this is designated as an emergency personnel position and will be required as needed to report to work during inclement weather.
Detailed statement of duties:
Oversees, supervises, trains, and prepares work schedules for employees in the everyday chores of the janitorial service department; this includes providing new employees on-site instruction.
Routinely inspects areas for cleanliness to ensure guidelines and departmental policies and procedures are followed.
Resolves departmental problems by exchanging information and conferring with agency staff and supervisor concerning work activities to ensure a smooth running department.
Maintains inventory of janitorial supplies by preparing purchasing requests to ensure an adequate inventory is maintained.
Determines the need for, and recommends, the purchase of maintenance and custodial equipment to the building supervisor.
Cleans and disinfects all lavatories and office areas by sweeping, wiping all surfaces, and wet-mopping all floors with approved chemicals, using appropriate procedures to ensure sanitation guidelines are met.
Loads or unloads equipment and supplies from vehicles and makes sure they are stored properly.
Sets up and takes down furniture in rooms for special functions and / or meetings.
Assembles and moves furniture such as desks and cabinets to ensure employees have the proper furniture to perform their work.
Keeps building in a clean and orderly condition by performing a combination of activities including cleaning assigned areas and making minor repairs to building using hand tools and equipment.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or institution housekeeping work, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
