Baystate Health is seeking a Full-time Coding Specialist
What You Will Do:
As the Baystate Coding Specialist you will be responsible for accurate E&M leveling, surgical, diagnostic and procedure coding of inpatient, outpatient and hospital charges for professional services, adhering to all governmental/carrier and coding guidelines. All tasks need to be performed following the Operating Principles of Baystate Health.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Expertise in coding complex surgical areas and/or E&M leveling through in-depth chart review of clinical documentation and active engagement with surgeons to clarify procedures and discuss coding options; accurately identify relative value units for each procedure code to maximize reimbursement for services performed.
Proficiency in coding complex office, outpatient and inpatient charges; requires chart review and active engagement with providers to determine procedures performed and diagnoses; cross-trained in multiple clinical areas.
Review daily and weekly reports, clear edits and identifies potential issues; works collaboratively with compliance and management to accurately identify and resolve.
Reconciliation of missing charges.
Serves as a mentor for new coders
Active participation in provider face-to-face training and problem resolution meetings to provide insight into issues, make suggestions for improvements and develop close working relationships with the providers; assist in the education of providers.
Participates in documentation of workflows for coding areas in collaboration with the Coding Educator.
Assists Lead and Senior Coding Specialist Educator when necessary.
Special tasks and projects assigned by supervisor or Manager.
What You Will Need:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
CPC, CCS-P or CCS Certification
4+ years’ experience as a coder in a provider-based setting with 2+ years’ experience in coding surgical services in a surgical practice with in-depth review and extrapolation from procedure and operative notes or experience with E&M leveling
A pre-employment test for new hires must be completed with demonstrated knowledge and experience in the inpatient/outpatient coding.
Expert knowledge of ICD-10 codes, CPT codes, HCPCS and CCI.
Thorough knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs.
Thorough knowledge of encoders.
Experience with CIS, IDX, SMS preferred.
