State of Massachusetts Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing in Pocasset, Massachusetts

Work Schedule: (40 hours) 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday

Days Off: Sunday/Saturday

Functions as a clinical leader on the inpatient unit and as a clinical support to the team physician and leads the team in his absence. Function as the primary provider of mental health services to a caseload of assigned patients on the inpatient unit. Run groups on the inpatient unit. Additionally, this individual oversees ongoing management of medical, psychiatric, and legal status arising on the Inpatient Unit. Care may consist of but is not limited to the following:

a. Evaluating patients, including diagnostic evaluation.

Planning treatment, usually in group setting with patient present.

Provide individual treatment interventions to patients.

Provide individual medication teaching and obtaining appropriate consents.

Ordering medications and treatments and evaluating their effectiveness and documenting same.

Monitor legal status of patients on the unit, provide guidance regarding time lines, guardianship issues, requirements to facility staff.

Participate in performance improvement.

Maintain current knowledge of psychiatric mental health nursing practice through attendance at seminars, conferences, workshops, in-services and continuing education programs as well as facility mandatory training.

Responds to psychiatric and medical emergencies.

Require frequent collaboration with attending MD, Social Workers, Nurses and Mental Health Workers.

This role is an important component of the care provided to patients who are in the various stages of recovery from mental health issues. This is a wonderful opportunity to use all of the skills and knowledge generally gained by completing an advanced practice degree program in mental health nursing.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience on an acute inpatient unit. Knowledge of community resources.

Cape & Islands Site / Pocasset Mental Health Center provides comprehensive services to adults and children*. *Programs include a 16-bed acute in-patient unit, Case Management, Day Treatment Program, Community Based Flexible Support, and Emergency/Crisis Services Unit. The Pocasset Mental Health Center is a Joint Commission certified facility. Special Requirements:

  1. Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

  2. Current and valid certification as a Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing by a national professional accrediting body.

  3. Current and valid authorization by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing to practice in the Expanded Role as a Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.

  4. Current and Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle license.
