The Medical Center serves over 25,000 patients at its main campus and six community based outpatient clinics in Central and Western Massachusetts. Core missions are primary care, mental health inpatient and outpatient care, and extended care. The incumbent is responsible for applying all necessary leadership skills and techniques required to accomplish all aspects of the Environmental Sanitation Program. Incumbent must maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness and sanitation in his/her assigned areas of responsibility. He/she will also assist in the related Environmental Management Service (EMS) functions of: pest management, furniture movement, signage, and interior design.
Incumbent assists with conducting general training and leads Housekeeping team members and CWT participants assigned to wards with the coordination of their work with the ward or area personnel concerned. Leads team members in all housekeeping skills and techniques to achieve satisfactory performance in accordance with established standards.
Incumbent must coordinate with supervisors and other services to accomplish special projects such as: furniture moving, cleaning of specialized areas, setting up meetings and conferences and other duties as assigned such as:
Quality assurance in all sanitation areas.
Daily inspections for the sanitation level of the assigned areas.
Communicates assignments and deadlines to the team and individuals.
Distributes and balances workload among employees in assigned areas.
Budgets, estimates, procedures, production, and other changes which may affect service.
Performance, progress and training needs of employees.
Obtain needed information or decisions from supervisors for resolving problems.
Work under rigid time frames, unexpected demands, and be skilled in adjusting assignments to ensure a smooth-running operation.
Read, write, and understand instructions from supervisors.
Motivate employees to operate as an effective team in which to carry out management goals.
Incumbent must know and must be able to instruct other workers in the proper use of safety equipment, when required, such as protective clothing, gloves, masks, respirators and goggles.
Incumbent is required to maintain knowledge of the latest advances in housekeeping and hazardous waste procedures and policies.
Incumbent is responsible for all aspects of the Environmental Sanitation Program and its related functions in all assigned areas of responsibility.

Your background must demonstrate experience in leading other employees to accomplish the required mission in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, venetian blinds, and counter-tops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, baths, and sinks, etc.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to 50 pounds is needed occasionally in moving, setting up, and when using powered equipment such as scrubbers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation's. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling. He/She may have to work week-ends, holidays, and evenings. The incumbent is required to wear special protective clothing as conditions warrant such as safety shoes, eye protection, respirators, etc.
EMOTIONAL DEMANDS: Many emotional demands are made upon an employee of a psychiatric hospital. The employee will be required to maintain composure and a calm demeanor at all times. Employees will exhibit an unbiased and nonjudgmental attitude in working, with patients/residents/families and significant others as well as with interdisciplinary staff.
