Lowell Community Health Center Medical Assistant/Receptionist in Lowell, Massachusetts
As the first interface with the patient or customer, the Receptionist greets and welcomes the patient utilizing excellent customer service skills. Registers patients with accuracy and efficiency, updates demographics and insurance information. Alerts clinical staff to walk-in patients or those patients presenting as ill. The Receptionist works collaboratively with other members of the health care team in order to provide superior patient care delivery.
The medical assistant provides direct patient care and assists other healthcare professionals in examining and treating patients. The medical assistant is clinically knowledgeable about practices, protocols, and procedures, and paper flow. The medical assistant works collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure an integrated approach to patient care and maintains constant communication among the members of the health care team.
Welcomes patients in a friendly, courteous manner both on the phone and in person. Answers incoming telephone calls and directs the call to appropriate staff member or destination. Makes, changes, and/or cancels appointments, inputs and/or updates demographic information, verifies insurance coverage, and assists patients in accessing help with applications for health care.
Provides excellent customer service to both external customers (e.g., patients, hospital staff, etc.) and internal customers (providers, medical records staff, business staff, etc.)
Distributes appropriate medical forms to clients for documentation, creates charts and designates chart numbers. Assists patients, when needed, in completing registration forms and medical history forms, or asks other staff to assist patient.
Assures that reception area and waiting area is neat and orderly. Communicates any delays in provider availability to patients.
Collects and distributes mail and messages. Maintains inventory of clerical supplies and assists administrative assistant in procuring those supplies. Performs a variety of clerical duties.
May assist with interpretation for providers and staff when necessary.
Attends departmental staff meetings and LCHC all-staff meetings. Attends appropriate training programs as they are available.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned, including, but not limited to Medical Assistant duties and Phlebotomy when trained and competency verified.Provides direct and non-direct patient care based on practical and on-the-job training. Greets and escorts patients to assigned room or area. Measures vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, height and weight and records information on patient chart. Prepares the patient for exam. Communicates with patients, visitors, and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner. Communicates to nursing staff when unable to complete requested task or procedure;

High school graduate or equivalent.
Minimum of 1 year's experience in a customer-service-related position, preferably in a health care setting. Good typing/keyboard skills, computer skills required.
Current CPR Certification required
CMA or RMA preferred

Varied to meet operating needs of department. Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 8 pm Friday 7:30 am to 5 pm Occasional Saturday
