Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Per Diem Receptionist DFCCC Lawrence in Lawrence, Massachusetts

The Receptionist reports to the Office Manager and is responsible for all aspects of patient scheduling in accordance with the scheduling guidelines. He/she provides superior customer service to all patients, family members, physicians and staff at all times and is primarily responsible for patient check-in/check-out, appointment and testing scheduling, and urgent financial clearance requests.

  • Responsible for routine and complex scheduling activities (i.e. chemo teaching visits, chemotherapy treatments, clinic visits, etc.) and outside testing.

  • Gathers and inputs patient demographic and insurance information into practice management system or OncoEMR.

  • Monitors insurance coverage through practice management system for eligibility and drug coverage.

  • Responsible for Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ).

  • Maintains HIPAA compliance.

  • Scans insurance cards and patient identification into practice management system.

  • Collects co-pays and outstanding balances; generates receipts for patient payments.

  • Ensures the completion of prior authorizations for radiology testing and authorizations for outside ancillary services.

  • May navigate new patients and educate them about the available services and providers.

  • Coordinate care with local facilities and make neccessary appointments.

  • Understand and utilize the local Hospital’s systems, if applicable i.e Meditech

  • Answers telephones, triages calls, and takes messages.

  • Provide patient appointment reminder cards as required.

  • Pages physicians as needed.

  • Reports unusual or large balances to Office Manager.

  • Files data within an Electronic Medical Record system (EMR).

  • Separates incoming reports for review and physician signatures.

  • Distributes reports to physicians as needed.

  • Sends Certified Mail of ‘No Shows’, as requested.

  • Tracks appointment no-shows and cancellations.

  • Batches and reconciles patient payments daily.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Experience working in a medical or customer service setting, preferred.

  • Knowledge of moderate medical terminology

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Excellent Customer Service

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Strong attention to detail
