Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod. With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs. We are currently seeking a dedicated Unit Secretary to join our team at Cape Cod Hospital. PURPOSE OF POSITION Performs receptionist/secretarial duties on Patient Care units and functions as the central communication source in the Nursing Station. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date patient records (including test/exam results, consults, discharges, admissions, etc.) as prescribed by established E.C. policies and procedures, obtaining old records, reports, results, dictation, transcription, etc. as instructed. (20%) (E) 2. Answers phones, relays calls and/or messages, takes and relays lab results, X-Ray reports, etc. when a nurse is unavailable. Calls ancillary departments, private physicians, other healthcare facilities, etc., as requested. (20%) (E) 3. Copies and faxes materials as requested, obtains, correlates and processes records and reports as required by established E.C., CCH and regulatory agency policies, procedures, standards and recommendations or as requested by authorized physicians, management, nurses. Obtains and correlates necessary records, flow sheets, and information for culture reports, patients. (15%) (E) 4. Adheres to departmental operating procedures and maintains a cooperative and courteous relationship with co-workers, physicians, volunteers, patients, visitors and allied healthcare professionals. (15%) (E) 5. Demonstrates proficiency and accuracy in the use of Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems) for looking up records, processing discharges and admissions, etc. (10%) (E) 6. Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients. (10%) (E) 7. Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials and supplies. Maintains reference materials such as policy and procedure manuals as requested. (5%) (E) 8. Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested by her immediate supervisor. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING 1.Ability to read and write and communicate in English and the level of a high school senior. 2.Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems such as MEDITECH Admissions and PCI, or similar computer systems. 3.Keyboarding at 30 words per minute. 4.Successful completion of medical terminology course with a Grade C or better, or successfully pass medical terminology challenge exam with 80% or better. 5.Minimum six (6) months experience in patient registration, admitting, Emergency Center, nurse's aide, medical secretary, medical receptionist, or similar position. Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 3 months of new position for Unit Secretaries in the Psych Center.
