We are seeking experienced and certified applicants for the role ofCertified Nursing Assistant II (CNA II). The ideal candidate performs a variety of functions including Veteran Care, nutritional care, assists with basic restorative nursing, nursing procedures, Veteran/family relations, infection control, provides safe and appropriate care within their level of training and competency. Overall, the candidate would provide physical care, comfort measures, and emotional support to Veterans. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
/Veteran Care Management/
Assists in orientation and instruction of other nursing personnel, including nursing techniques, procedures, and equipment.
Serves as a resource on Veteran care issues and assists CNA I staff in meeting and maintaining quality and high standards of care.
Provides basic information which assists nurses in making lists of problems and needs, setting goals, and revising the plan of care.
Conducts monthly performance improvement audits and makes recommendations to Veteran Care Coordinator/Supervisor.
Develops and conducts one in-service per year, serves on or provides input to facility committees.
Provides training for certified nursing assistants on accurate documentation of flow sheets and reviews documentation on an ongoing basis.
Develops and updates Veteran care cards to ensure the delivery of safe and Veteran-centered care.
Observes and reports changes in signs and symptoms or deviations from normal health status.
Maintains own competence and acts as clinical resource and expert role model to staff.
Interacts with appropriate management personnel regarding Veteran care and related issues.
/Veteran Environment Management/
Promotes philosophy and goals of the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke.
Maintains a safe environment for Veterans, staff members and visitors.
Promotes teamwork with all staff assigned to shift.
Monitors activities of the shift staff for adherence to standards and need for education.
Promotes communication among staff team members by sharing information.
Requirements to be considered for this position (Minimum Entrance Requirements):
The Nurse Aide Registry Program (NARP), instituted under the provision of the Omnibus Reconciliation Acts of 1987, 1989 and 1990 (OBRA) 42 U.S.C. 1396r, calls for the establishment of training and competency evaluation programs and the maintenance of a long-term care nurse aide registry program as such only candidates with verified certification will be considered.
At least one (1) year of experience in the care of geriatric patients in a healthcare setting such as long term care;
Certification in dementia, hospice or other relevant discipline;
CPR certification through the American Heart Association;
Ability to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, and team members;
Demonstrated attention to detail with readiness to respond appropriately when needed;
Capacity to maintain accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information
Skilled in the use of using a computer for completion of work assignments.
11:15pm-7:15am - 40 hours per week.
Days Off: Flex days off and every other weekend
Schedule and days off are based on the operational needs of the facility.
This is a 24 hour/ 7 days a week staff position. The Soldiers' Home in Holyoke requires employees in this position to be able to perform mandatory overtime when circumstances dictate the need.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, paraprofessional or technical experience in a hospital, clinic or medical facility, the major duties of which included providing nursing care, medical and/or paramedical services to clients/patients, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in medical technology, medical assistant, nursing, nurse education or medicine may be substituted for the required experience.*
II. Registration as a Certified Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical assistants may be substituted for the required experience.
**Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
