Mount Auburn Hospital is a 217-bed teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School and is located in Cambridge, MA. Founded in 1886, the hospital is dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare to the residents of surrounding nearby communities. Mount Auburn Hospital is part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, a new healthcare system in Boston, MA and surrounding areas.

Echo Lab Department Description

The Echo Lab at Mount Auburn Hospital offers comprehensive echocardiography services to our patients. The Echo Lab is a busy department consisting of 3 exam rooms. In addition, the staff provides coverage for TEEs performed in the Cardiac Cath Lab, coverage for urgent echo hospital-wide, and support of echo imaging during TAVRs in the hybrid CVOR. Our Echo Lab is fully accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

General Expectations and Duties

Provides competent compassionate care based on scientific principles Performs echocardiograms competently Acquires, calculates, and performs preliminary interpretation and comparison to prior exams, then relays the information to the attending physician if results are critical Utilizes echocardiographic images to guide procedures as needed (percardiocentesis, TAVR, etc) Performs basic tests on equipment and operates equipment adhering to safety instructions of the manufacturer and hospital policy Participates in the teaching and training of students in affiliated programs and housestaff Participates in continuous improvement efforts Provides patient education as necessary both pre- and post-exam Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current ultrasound practice by maintaining CEU requirements per the registry Recognizes changes in patient status and reports to attending physician Acquires/maintains competency in radiation safety principles when in the Cath Lab or CVOR Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment Good interpersonal and communication skills Acquires/maintains competency in use of the electronic medical record Collaborates with various departments to ensure continuity of care Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred Current BLS preferred Hours of Operation: Echo Lab is open Monday-Saturday dayshifts only (staff is on-call for cardiac emergencies on all off-hours). Sundays the Lab is closed, but staff is on-call for cardiac emergencies. Available for flexible dayshifts between the hours of 0700 and 1730 or per department needs (mix of 8, 9, and 10-hour shifts within the Department). Available for on-call shifts on rotation as needed Every 4th weekend on-call required for full-time and part-time staff or per departmental needs Holidays per rotation Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment required Previous echocardiography experience highly preferred Current RCS or RDCS, or eligible to take the exam Basic computer skills required. Epic experience preferred.
