Under the direction of the Practice Manager, with the physician's order, books patient's surgery with the operating rooms at hospitals, and manages the surgical booking process from the pre-op to the post-op phase. Maintains departmental booking systems for assigned providers. Answers and screens all telephone calls, and responds to all messages with appropriate follow through.

Views booking slip for completeness then sends a copy of the form to the business office for insurance verification prior to scheduling surgery. Schedules AM, Same Day, Inpatient surgeries and OPD procedures in conjunction with the physician's schedule. Notifies patient of surgery schedule, need for second opinion, pre-op testing information, and sends papers to PCP for medical or cardiac clearance. May need to write out lab and radiology testing sheets for patients. Assure EKG appointment set. Notifies patient of any special preparations prior to surgery. Arranges for assist for surgery when needed. Arranges for radiographs and notifies vendors to provide special equipment to be sent to the hospital for surgery or procedures requiring these. Documents in IDX the surgical date for billing tracking purposes. Documents in IDX and notifies provider of any cancellations or surgical date changes. Documents in physician's planner, times and locations of all cases. Responsible for insurance pre-certification for elective surgeries. Maintains daily list of all patients in hospital and physician assignments for the following day. Obtains signed consent forms, H&Ps; faxes to PAT and verifies receipt of same. Inter-offices original consent form to the hospital PAT location. Obtains all lab results, EKG and radiology results, medical clearances and faxes to PAT, verifying receipt of the same at least 48 hours before surgery. Responsible for having patient's medical record or pertinent copies from the medical record available to provider for pre-ops. Completes arrangements and generates referral for Epidural Steroid Injections, per MD order. Completes arrangements and insurance clearance for Bone Stimulation Completes arrangements and paperwork for braces and slings for patients for their post-op surgical period. Reports patient complaints to the director. Maintains open communication with the physicians, staff, and patients. Assists in orienting and training others the functions and duties of the position. Mentors students. Responsible for Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resource policies pertinent to the position and responsibilities. Performs other duties as necessary. Assists peers in other roles when work load warrants.

Graduate of an accredited Medical Secretarial program preferred. Computer literacy and typing skills required. Knowledge of medical terminology. Customer service and telephone skills preferred. Billing experience helpful.
