Franciscan Hospital for Children Patient Coordinator in Brighton, Massachusetts
Flexible, 20 Hours/Week, M-F
Position Summary: Under general supervision the Patient Coordinator will be responsible for managing outpatient scheduling functions, check-in and check-out for ambulatory areas and providing administrative support to clinical providers. The Patient Coordinator will handle appointment scheduling, registration, insurance verification, referral resources and processing/obtaining referrals and authorizations for ambulatory services utilizing multiple hospital systems. The Patient Coordinator will follow-up on patient inquiries, resolving patient questions/concerns and provide front desk coverage for ambulatory areas in a very fast paced, high acuity department. Must be comfortable working with varied medical, traumatic, psychiatric and special needs settings and with a diverse population.
Scope of Position Responsibilities
Greets all patients, their families, and any other visitors in a respectful, courteous and professional manner.
Communicates effectively with patients, clinical providers and staff using multiple advanced communication tools, including phone, email, fax and mail.
Answers and resolves patient inquiries in a professional, empathetic and patient-centered way, through the use of effective listening, written and verbal communication skills.
Utilizes established guidelines and concise judgment to manage ambulatory schedules.
Schedules patients accurately into the hospital system, verifies insurance and demographic information at scheduling and follows up on outstanding issues.
Requests and obtains referral/authorizations for ambulatory services and accurately enters information into hospital system.
Works closely with all clinical providers and departments providing administrative support, front desk coverage, telephone coverage and other assigned clerical duties.
Identifies opportunity to improve work processes and environment, and changes to existing protocol or processes.
Maintains productive and professional relations across all departments; assists with training and orienting new staff and attending trainings as required.
Attentive to patients, families and clinical provider's needs; demonstrates ability to be discrete and protect integrity and confidential information.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Education: High School Diploma / GED
Experience: 1-3 years registering, scheduling and patient intake in a hospital or medical office. Meditech experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual skills preferred.
