Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced full-time Certified Dental Assistant to be part of a high-energy practice balanced by an enthusiastic support team. The dentists providing treatment are a combination of pediatric dental residents, pediatric dental faculty and general dentists. The CDA will perform a variety of dental assistant and office administration functions. From the pre-treatment to the post-treatment stage, the Certified Dental Assistant works chair-side making patients feel as comfortable as possible. Qualified candidates will also exhibit the following character attributes that mirror company culture: positive energy, accountability, professionalism and the ability to communicate efficiently with fellow team members and the special and dynamic patient base.

Minimum Education and Experience:

· Dental Assistant Certificate

· 2-3 years of Dental assisting experience preferred

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· Resume must demonstrate stable employment history

· Experience with children and patients with special health care needs desired

· Current CPR/BLS certification

Professional Responsibilities

· Maintains patient confidentiality

· Conducts self in a polite and mature manner

· Sets appropriate priorities, time management

· Utilizes sick time appropriately

· Observes policies regarding holiday time, vacation time, LOA etc.

· Wears personal protective attire including long sleeved disposable hospital gown, face mask with eye shield for procedures where splatter is possible, gloves, visible hospital ID

· Presents a professional appearance: long hair tied back, no blue jeans, no visible body piercings other than ear

· Participates in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement activities

Position duties

· Set up for all clinical procedures: placement of plastic barriers

· May assist in positioning a patient in the dental chair

· May assist in restraining patients if directed to do so by the dentist / resident

· Place protective lead apron and thyroid shield

· Take radiographs under the direction of the dentist / resident

· Maintain X-ray developers

· Develop and duplicate intra-oral and panoramic radiographs

· Provide chair-side assistance for dentists and residents as needed

· Provide chair-side assistance during sedation if directed by the Office Manager

· Demonstrates competence in preparation and mixing of all dental materials

· Clean up following all clinical procedures: removal of barriers, disinfection

· Follows OSHA, JCAHO, Hospital and Department policies and procedures regarding sterilization of instruments including biological monitoring

· Stock supply drawers in each clinic

· Inform Clinic Coordinator when supplies need to be ordered

· Maintain cleanliness of all areas

· Change suctions weekly and monthly

· Promptly report all needed repairs to clinic coordinator

· Daily code cart check

· Reports patient and environmental incidents to Clinic Coordinator or Office Manager

· Assist Patient Coordinator with patient registration and data entry if required

· Attend regular staff meetings
