Under general supervision, the Ultrasound Tech performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to obtain and record interpretable diagnostic information for the medical staff. RESPONSIBILITIES Performs ultrasound examinations in all modalities (B-scan, Doppler, M-mode, real time) as well as all types of procedures (small parts, abdominal, neurological, etc.) Provides quality assurance on all ultrasonic equipment and instrumentation. Obtains all clinical information available through charts, films, lab tests, etc. prior to exams. Informs clinics, physicians and floors of interpretation for exams and provides results on request. Teaches residents, students, medical staff and visitors the science, capabilities, and proper use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool. Schedules and receives patients for exams. Develops and maintains a filing system for patient records and teaching purposes. Checks and maintains supplies. REQUIREMENTS Ability to perform exams in Doppler, M-mode, B-scan and real time modalities. Ability to concentrate for long periods of time under various conditions while acquiring diagnostic information. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. Level of knowledge generally obtained through successful completion of a two year Medical Technologist Program and one and a half year sonography program at an approved institution. One year clinical experience in medical ultrasonography. Must be registered in abdominal, small parts, and ultrasound physics.
