Bay Cove Human Services Shelter Nurse in Boston, Massachusetts
The Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to, monitoring the health care of, and assisting with accessing appropriate health care for guests of a dual-diagnosis emergency shelter. The Nurse is also responsible for monitoring the medication system, training staff, and providing on-call consultation. Provide medical assessment at intake and periodically throughout the guests' stay. Monitor, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding medical issues. Provide health education to guests via one-on-one education as needed. Coordinate health care needs for all guests by. Facilitate hospital and med rehab discharges. Provide ongoing Medication Administration Program (MAP) monitoring. Train newly hired staff and all staff, annually and as needed, regarding health care and MAP policies and practices including. Provide on-call regarding MAP operations for Bay Cove's Mental Health programs on a rotational basis. Assist shelter staff in preparing for MAP, licensing, and accreditation inspections. Provide all other nursing functions, ie giving IM injections, when necessary. Master's degree in Nursing. Massachusetts Registered Nurse. Two years nursing experience. One year direct care experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental health issues. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to climb stairs, carry up to 40 pounds, and assist people with mobility impairments as needed. Use of personal cellular telephone for work communication.
