GENERAL SUMMARY: The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner provides health care directed toward health promotion, health maintenance, disease prevention and rehabilitation for client employees through the Occupational Health dept. and to provide a safe and healthy workplace.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes effective interviewing skills to assess employees in a thorough and systematic manner.

  • Administers and develops nursing care procedures and protocols with specific goals and interventions unique to employee needs.

  • Identify employees need for personal protective equipment and the need for work-related accommodations.

  • Recognizes subtle or more complex variables during nursing assessments.

  • Utilizes clinical resources appropriately.

  • Plans and monitors interventions and outcomes based on employee needs.

  • Performs procedures and treatments according to established departmental guidelines.

  • During follow up phone call, evaluates employee’s progress towards health care goals and offers additional or alternative strategies to ensure outcomes are achieved.

  • Documents/communicates results of pre-employment with instructions for follow up care.

  • Refer patients to other health care providers for medical evaluation and treatment.

Communication/Education:

  • Identifies and evaluates employee learning needs.

  • Provides education to the employee based on identified developmental and resource needs.

  • Implements teaching plan and documents the employees understanding of and compliance to the plan.

  • Identifies appropriate educational needs in area of practice and seeks appropriate assistance.

  • Attends all mandatory educational programs.

  • Accepts constructive criticism and utilizes it for professional growth.

  • Resolves issues using appropriate channels of communication when necessary.

  • Actively listens to employee issues/concerns, identifies problems and participates in problem solving.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • Minimum BSN required

  • ANP preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Occupational Health

Hospital and/or out-patient experience preferred

Workers comp or Case Management experience preferred
