Department Description: This position supports the Master Patient Index to assure the accuracy of merged duplicate medical records. The incumbent will see the process through from beginning to end. We are seeking candidates that are detailed oriented and possess strong communication skills with colleagues and customers.Job Location: Boston, MAReq ID: 21273BRJob Summary: The Master Patient Index (MPI) Analyst is primarily responsible for maintaining the integrity of the MPI by reviewing new medical records numbers issued, analyzing the potential for duplicate medical record numbers and resolving as appropriate updating demographic information as identified from the Important Changes Report, and entering expiration dates for patients identified as deceased.
Merges records as requested by the ED or Registration.
Analyzes paper and electronic records to confirm or reject duplicity. Performs electronic and paper merges of confirmed duplicate medical records and identifies/confirms the most valid/current information to be retained in the MPI.
Prints and reviews the Clinical Computing "Important Changes Report"; changes in name, gender, social security, parents and date of birth and updates records as required such as adding alias names.
Analyzes, collects and reports to the manager any patterns of duplicate record creation.
Performs routine evaluation of outstanding problems recorded in the database for follow-up and resolution.
High School diploma or GED required, High School diploma or GED preferred
1-3 years related work experience required.
Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
Written Communications: Ability to read, and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients, families and other medical center staff; and respond to basic questions.
Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English in order to follow basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively in basic English with patients, families and medical center staff in response to routine questions.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
