Department Description: nullJob Location: Boston, MAReq ID: 20640BRJob Summary: The Health Fitness Specialist II reports to the Supervisor of the Tanger Be Well Center, and is responsible for working with members on exercise programs, tracking exercise information, and maintaining daily activities in the fitness center. Incumbent must be detailed orientated and be able to provide excellent customer service. In addition, this position will require the development and promotion of health education programs and lifestyle counseling in the areas of weight, stress and change management for both employees and patients. This position entails coordinating Tanger Be Well's group exercise program which includes overseeing the instructors and maintaining a diversified class schedule.
Screens fitness center applicants; monitors medical clearances; designs, implements, and evaluates programs for members. Conducts personal training sessions as scheduled. Instructs participants on proper technique for recommended exercise programs. Maintains monthly information reports on exercise programs.
Develops and promotes health education programs for fitness center's clients, determining program contents and supporting materials. Designs exercise programs as part of the health education curriculum. Provides lifestyle counseling to clients in the areas of weight, stress, and change management. Creates educational display boards to educate members on topics and programs.
Supervise, teach, and work with group exercise instructors in providing safe, fun and diverse classes. Provide feedback to Tanger Be Well and group exercise staff regarding attendance numbers and justification for classes. Updates instructors on policy changes, upcoming continuing education classes, and future Be Well programs.
Ensures a safe, clean and professional environment at the Center; performs preventive and routine maintenance procedures. Supports more technical maintenance procedures as applied to laundry and cleaning services, ensures equipment and facility are well maintained and operating properly; ensures safety of fitness center members and interacts with the other staff for all fitness related activities.
Assists implementing the center's policy and procedures; attends staff and fitness center meetings; and supports membership recruitment and retention program. Provides coverage of the main administrative area when needed, opening and closing procedures.
Bachelor's degree required in Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, or health-related field. Master's degree preferred in Exercise Physiology
Certificate 1 required: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Certificate 2 preferred: Health Fitness Specialist,
3-5 years related work experience required.
Experience in health education program development and teaching.
Prior experience in fitness programming and exercise testing.
Experience in public speaking or group facilitation.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
